The Brits: who won what? Posted On 19 February 2020

Now in it’s 40th year, there has always been some controversy when it comes to the Brits, with this year’s event no exception with the furore over the lack of female nominees. But who won big last night?

Hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall for the third year running, the 40th Brit Awards ceremony took place on Monday night at the O2 Arena in London and was attended by a whole host of pop celebrities hoping to bag an award.

Lewis Capaldi received two awards – one for New Artist and the other for his smash hit, Someone You Loved which was awarded British Single. Unsurprisingly, the Scottish singer accepted the latter award in true Capaldi fashion: with a bottle of Buckfast in hand while paying homage to his late Grandmother; the true inspiration behind the song and not ex-girlfriend and Love Island contestant, Paige Turley as otherwise reported.

Female Solo Artist went to Mabel – daughter of 80s and 90s pop star, Neneh Cherry, who herself picked up two Brits back in 1990. It obviously runs in the family!

Meanwhile Stormzy collected his award for Male Solo Artist – the second time that he has won the award. The first was in 2018.

And with the soon-to-be-released new Bond film, it was probably no surprise to many that Billie Eilish picked up the award for International Female Solo Artist. At the tender age of 18, she is the youngest person ever to record a Bond theme; and her performance of the hit track at the Brits didn’t disappoint.
