The Big Night In fundraiser Posted On 15 April 2020

Joining forces for the first time ever, BBC Children in Need and Comic Relief will bring a ‘one-night only’ fundraising TV show to the UK

Organisers have promised The Big Night In will be an exciting, “night of entertainment” which will celebrate healthcare workers helping to fight coronavirus, while raising money for those affected by it.

The entertainment will include live performances by music artists from their own homes as well as lots of prizes.

All monies raised will be equally split between Comic Relief and Children in Need, with the show’s organisers saying that the money raised will help people stay “safe from harm, mentally healthy and with access to food, warmth and shelter, as well as helping people stay connected, active and positive through these extraordinary times”.

The government also announced that they will match all public donations made for The Big Night In: “The government will match, pound for pound, whatever the public decides to donate, starting with at least £20 million pounds to the National Emergencies Trust Appeal”, said Rishi Sunak, Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Sunak also announced that a total of £750 million pounds in funding will be given to the charity sector, with £370 million of that funding to be used to support small, local charities working with vulnerable people.

The Big Night In will be broadcast on Thursday 23rd April at 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
