Storm Diana expected to deliver heavy rain, gales and up to 70 mph winds to Britain Posted On 28 November 2018

As powerful winds approach the UK, The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings to western parts of the country, after thick fog has caused flight and train delays

Storm Diana is set to move quite quickly through the country today, with showers expected to continue into Thursday, producing somewhere between 60mm and 80mm of rain for some areas.

The storm has already caused hundreds of flights to be delayed and cancelled, with thick fog having descended on the South East of the country.

Yesterday morning, there were 62 flights cancelled and 380 delayed by more than 15 minutes – and this was from Heathrow alone. The majority of these disrupted journeys have been British Airways services, with the carrier cancelling 45 scheduled flights and delaying 237.

A Heathrow spokeswoman said: “This morning’s heavy fog has led to reduced visibility across all London airports which may result in some passengers experiencing disruption to their journeys today.

“Passengers are advised to check their flight status with their airline before coming to Heathrow.

“As always, our top priority is the safety of passengers and we apologise to those whose travel has been affected by today’s weather.”

The severe weather conditions have also caused delays to trains serving Gatwick Airport.

Storm Diana, named by the IPMA Portuguese weather service, began bringing attention to itself when it threatened the Azores archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean on Monday.
