People of the World! Spice Girls announce long-awaited re-union Posted On 07 November 2018

It’s the news every Spice Girls fan has been waiting for – the Spice Girls have announced their first tour for a decade, with six UK stadium dates in June next year

Melanie Brown (‘Scary Spice’), Emma Bunton (‘Baby Spice’), Geri Horner (‘Ginger Spice’) and Melanie Chisholm (‘Sporty Spice’) revealed details of the reunion tour in a video on social media on Monday.

The video is in the style of a news bulletin, and sees the girls bickering over Geri’s outfit before breaking into song and declaring “a shock announcement”.

Sadly for fans of the girl band, Victoria Beckham (also known as ‘Posh Spice’) hasn’t joined the line-up due to “work commitments” so the reunion will see the band perform as a four-piece.

The foursome will kick off at Manchester’s Etihad Stadium on June 1st 2019 with tickets for all venues going on sale on Saturday at 10.30am.

They will also perform in Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh and Bristol, ending the tour at London’s Wembley Stadium. They will be supported by chart-topper Jess Glynne.

“We are beyond excited to be reuniting next year for a stadium tour,” the group said in a statement.

“Bringing girl power and our message of friendship and love back to the stage feels more relevant than ever. We hope everyone can join us for one big Spice Girls party.”

The Spice Girls formed in 1994 and released their debut single ‘Wannabe’ two years later. The song stayed number one in the charts for seven weeks. It also hit number one in 37 countries.

They went on to release three studio albums as well as hit singles ‘Say You’ll Be There’, ‘2 Become 1’, ‘Spice Up Your Life’, ‘Stop’, ‘Viva Forever’ and ‘Mama’/’Who Do You Think You Are?’

They also released a feature length film, Spice World: The Movie, in 1997 which made £43m at the box office.

The group last performed as a five-piece during the London 2012 Olympics closing ceremony. They originally split in 2000 before reforming for a tour back in 2007.
