Happy Halloween! Posted On 31 October 2018

The night of 31st October, the eve of All Saints’ Day, is often celebrated by children dressing up in frightening masks and costumes

But what is Halloween? Halloween has its roots in the ancient, pre-Christian Celtic festival of Samhain, which was celebrated on the night of 31st October and was when ghosts and spirits were believed to be abroad.

The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom and northern France, believed that the dead returned to earth on Samhain. Scary stuff!
